Mermaid Erika
That Big Island Mermaid

Mermaid Erika grew up in the Chicago area but has always had a passion for traveling as well as a huge fascination with the ocean. She lived on the Big Island of Hawaii for a few years which is where she got her Instagram name @ThatBigIslandMermaid. She graduated from The University of Hawaii at Hilo where she studied Environmental Studies and Marine Science! She also studied abroad in Turks and Caicos and spent time doing marine conservation work in the Bahamas and Costa Rica!

 

Before becoming a mermaid, Erika spent a lot of time scuba diving with her highest certification being PADI Divemaster! One of Erika’s first mermaid roles was being cast as an extra in a film called “Mermaid’s Lament”. She describes being on set as a very exciting and unique experience.

 

Erika also works part-time as a photographer and specializes in portraits. You can find some of her work on her photography Instagram page @erikarothphotography. She also offers “mermaid photoshoots” as well!

 

Some other fun facts about Erika are that her favorite animal is a sea otter, her favorite color is green, and she is very passionate about protecting our environment!
